How Multi-Vendor Marketplaces Are Changing the Way We Shop

Updated: May 20, 2023

If you are not sure what a multi-vendor marketplace is, don't worry, I will explain. If you heard of Etsy, then you probably have a good idea of what a multi-vendor marketplace is. Basically, a multi-vendor marketplace has various individual small businesses under one central business. Now you are probably thinking, 'Are these marketplaces just online?' The answer to that is no! From what I noticed, more and more of these multi-vendor marketplaces are popping up around town.

What makes multi-vendor marketplaces stand out from a single business is that they allow small solopreneurs, like myself, to have a physical storefront and shelf space without the expense costs of owning a business and renting a traditional retail property. Instead, vendors typically rent out a fraction of the space on a per square foot basis. Additionally, this marketplaces model brings in a variety of local makers, artisans, crafters, and curators. When was the last time you bought a candle that was curated, packaged, and stocked all by a small business owner? If that isn't impressive enough, then keep reading. By the end of this blog, I promise, you will want to check out your local multi-vendor marketplace.
