Quick Tips Before You Go

  • In California, non-service dogs are allowed on outdoor patios only if the restaurant permits it and certain conditions are met (separate outside entrance, no dogs on seats, disposable dog bowls, etc.). Always call ahead.

The Cliff Restaurant (Ocean-view multi-level patio + dog menu)

Panoramic views, a dedicated dog-friendly patio, and even a puppy menu. This one’s a must for locals and visitors alike.

Photographer’s tip: arrive 45–60 minutes before sunset; seat your pup with the ocean behind them and expose for the highlights, instant golden-hour glow.

GG’s Bistro (Mediterranean comfort right on PCH)

Sidewalk patio with selected dog-friendly tables, great people-watching and warm service.

230 Forest Avenue (Laguna classic, lively patio)

A long-time local favorite with patio seating and a spot on the city’s dog-friendly list.

Relaxed patio, perfect for a coffee + pastry stop with your pup. Listed by Visit Laguna as dog-friendly casual dining.

Dana Point / Monarch Beach

Wind & Sea (Harbor views, breezy patio)

A Dana Point staple with a dog-friendly outdoor area overlooking the boats, sunny vibes and seaside plates.

The Shwack Beach Grill (Laid-back local burger spot)

Casual, dog-friendly patio; perfect after-beach grub.

What A Dish Café (Harbor-adjacent brunch + pup cups)

Pet-friendly outdoor seating and they’ve been known to offer a pup cup.

San Clemente

The Cellar (Wine bar + bites on Del Mar)

Dog-friendly is literally on their website—cozy patio, great for date nights with the four-legged third wheel.

Bear Coast Coffee (Pier-adjacent coffee staple)

Beloved by locals; dogs welcome on the patio (and you’ll catch that ocean breeze). Yelp

Photographer’s tip: shoot in open shade under the awning; tap-to-focus on your dog’s eyes and use your phone’s 2x lens for a flattering perspective.

San Juan Capistrano

Rancho Capistrano Winery (OC largest winery)

A roomy dog-friendly patio beside the tracks; comfy seating, shade, and crowd-pleasing plates.

Map It & Make It a Mini Tour

Plan a South OC “patio crawl”: start with coffee at Bear Coast, cruise the pier, head to Rancho Capistrano Winery for lunch, time a sunset at The Cliff, and finish with late-night dessert back in town.

Bring This (for an easy, pup-forward outing)

  • Collapsible water bowl + waste bags (many places provide water, but it’s not guaranteed).

  • Short leash (keeps your dog close to your table and within code).

  • Small towel for damp paws/sandy bellies before seating.

  • High-value treats for calm, behavior.

  • Photographer’s kit: lint roller, and a squeaker for that ears-up portrait.
